The Guinness Lake, Co. Wicklow drone footage in 4K. The Guinness Lake otherwise known as Lough Tay is a thick, dark coloured lake adjacent to the Sally Gap in Co. Wicklow. It got it’s name because of the murky waters that resemble the world famous Irish dry stout. The lake can be viewed from many locations and tourists often stop to take in the scenery. Lough Tay (Irish: Loch Té) or The Guinness Lake, is a small but scenic lake set on private property in the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland. The lake lies between the mountains of Djouce 725 metres (2,379 ft), and Luggala 595 metres (1,952 ft), and is dominated by Luggala's east-facing granite cliffs.[1] The lough is fed by the Cloghoge River, which then drains into Lough Dan to the south. Lough Tay forms part of the Guinness Estate at Luggala, and has limited public

Where in Ireland is Vikings Filmed Fans of the History Channel’s epic Vikings series will be no strangers to the incredible scenery throughout. The TV series, which follows Norse legend Ragnar Lothbrok around in the 9th century as he pillages and conquers lands far and wide, is based in Ireland and has consistently shone a light on some of the most beautiful aspects of the Irish landscape since it first started back in 2013. We wanted to collect together the most famous Vikings filming locations on offer in the Emerald Isle so, if you’ve ever fancied following Ragnar’s footsteps, read on Lough Tay (County Wicklow) Lough Tay, also known as the Guinness Lake as it’s owned by the famous family, is one of County Wicklow’s most famous locations, second only to the Glendalough valley. Vikings fans will recognize it as Kattegat village, home to the series’ hero Ragnar and his family. Ps. If you view Lough Tay from above (using Google Maps) you’ll notice it loosely resembles a pint of Guinness! Luggula Estate (County Wicklow) Luggula Estate, and more specifically the mountain which is also known as “Fancy Mountain”, is situated right beside Lough Tay and features in Vikings as the rugged landscape surrounding Kattegat. A quick look, either online or in Vikings, will reveal that this area, and Wicklow in general, is rightly famous for its breathtaking beauty and dramatic backdrops. River Boyne (County Meath) Vikings fans might be swept up in the majesty of seeing an ancient form of Paris and the River Seine but what they’re actually looking at is a CGI spectacular set against Ireland’s River Boyne. The River Boyne runs through a number of counties including Meath and Louth but much of the Vikings filming occurs near the famous Slane Castle, known for hosting the worlds biggest acts including U2, Madonna, The Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen amongst countless others! Blessington Lakes (County Wicklow) One of the most evocative images of the Vikings series is Ragnar and company journeying forth in a famous Scandinavian longship. Many of these scenes occur at Blessington Lakes which, despite covering 500 acres of water in the majestic Wicklow Mountains, are completely man made and have only existed for the last 50 years!

Best wishes, John. 🤍 I dedicate this video to Sean who did some work as an extra in the TV series “Vikings”. Sean was a childhood and best friend to myself and my brother Declan. Sadly, Sean went missing on Christmas Eve 2017 beside Lough Ennell near Mullingar. He was only found earlier this year (2021). Sean had been having some mental health problems at that time. As someone who has also had some mental health problems back in 2016 and then 2018, I can understand very well what Sean went through. I am very lucky to be alive myself after a suicide attempt in June 2018. After 3 weeks in hospital, which included some life saving surgery & treatment, one of the first things I did (when starting to feel better & with new hope) was to buy myself a drone and eventually start making these videos. It also complemented my interest in photography which I had always had. Sean was also interested in both photography and film making. He had completed various courses in photography & video production, and had made some small films with teenagers from Mullingar (during a course were he was the tutor). He also loved music, as I do. He had also formed a band called “Feargal is the Applejack” back in the late 1980s here in Dublin. Although the band never signed any record deals, they did play a good few gigs in their time. Some of their songs can be found here on YouTube. I used to take the band photos and my brother Declan managed the band. Of course, Sean did many other things during his life. He was very involved in setting up an Educate Together school in Mullingar as well as working with TEAM in the Mullingar area. He had 4 children with his partner Denise. Sadly, two other members of the band took their own lives. We lost Gerry and Tony in 1997 and 1999. Sean, Gerry and Tony are all very sadly missed. In the Wicklow mountains just a few minutes drive past the Sally Gap. Lough Tay is part of the former Guinness estate, owned by Arthur Guinness. The Guinness family imported white sand and laid it over the beach of the north shore to make it look like a pint of Guinness hence the nickname the Guinness lake. The lake is about an hour drive from Dublin's city center. From there we went to the nearby town of Newtown Mount kennedy for a meal and to watch a game. A great little day trip.
